1er webinar ahaj

On 19 November, the Spanish-German Lawyers Association (“AHAJ” in Spanish) reached a landmark as it held its first virtual meeting. Namely, a webinar on “Cross-border tax aspects of remote working”. Mónica Weimann, president of the AHAJ, welcomed over 100 participants and explained the new challenges that the organisation is working on. Lutz Carlos Moratinos Meissner, General Secretary of the AHAJ, made introductions and acted as moderator. The speakers were Andreu Bové, partner at Bové Montero’s Madrid office, and Frank Behrenz, tax adviser at Crowe Kleeberg and based in Munich. During the session, they made a detailed analysis of the provisions of the recent RDL 28/2020 on remote work for companies and workers that decide to adopt telework, which was unusual in Spain prior to COVID-19. There is an urgent need for discussion on this topic, of great interest given the doubts around the implications of remote work from a tax and employment-law perspective. The speakers looked at the new tax and social security requirements from both a Spanish and German point of view.

Founded in Bonn in 1984, the AHAJ currently boasts over 1,000 members from all legal and economic areas in Germany and Spain.  It helps to increase awareness and knowledge of the respective legal systems and encourages bilateral relations between members. Bové Montero is an active member of the association and takes part in all its events.
